NIH Awards Over $30 Million to NYU School of Medicine for Research (10/5/2009)

Dear Colleagues:
We want to share the news with you that NYU School of Medicine has been awarded over $30 million in additional research grants from the NIH for Fiscal Year 2010 alone. The funding for these grants is part of the $5 billion of Federal dollars provided through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Fund, often referred to as the economic stimulus package.

So far we have received funding for 86 research projects, led by NYU Langone faculty across a broad range of basic science and clinical departments.  To review the list of scientists whose research received funding, follow this link: http://projectreporter.nih.gov/reporter_SearchResults.cfm

The funds awarded have exceeded our highest expectations and are a testament to the quality of the investigators and their research here at the Medical Center.  In addition to congratulating the investigators and their teams, I also want to acknowledge the exceptional efforts of the Sponsored Programs Administration office,  departmental administrators and staff, and to the team in the Office of Science and Research who put in the many extra hours to ensure the successful submission of our grant applications last spring.

We all appreciate the federal government's enhanced commitment to research and look forward to translating its investment to important discoveries that advance science and health care (and stimulate the economy!).

Sincerely, Vivian Lee, MD, PhD, MBA
Senior Vice President and Vice Dean for Science
Chief Scientific Officer
